AMOS B. BLAIR, son of MATILDA SPRADLIN and GEORGE WASHINGTON "WATT" BLAIR, was born March 15, 1843 in Floyd County, Kentucky, and died July 15, 1914 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married PAULINA LITTERAL, daughter of JOHN LITTERAL and MARY "POLLY" KENNARD, February 23, 1865 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. She was born August 17, 1843 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died August 8, 1916 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Twin Branch, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Paulina Litteral was the sister of John Fleming Litteral and James Wesley Litteral.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Amos B. Blair married Plynia Litteral on February 23, 1865 in Magoffin County at the home of Polly Litteral. The witness was James H. Blanton and the minister was Wallis Bailey.

According to his death certificate, Amos B. Blair died July 15, 1914 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, from "acute yellow atrophy of liver." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Floyd County, his birth date as March 15, 1843, his marital status as married, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Geo. W. Blair (b. CLARINDA RICE, daughter of ALEXANDER L. RICE and LUCY ANN BARNETT, was born in September of 1872 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died before 1910. She married LEANDER BLAIR, son of SAMUEL RUSSELL BLAIR and MIRANDA LEMASTER, February 26, 1887 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born in June of 1865 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died before 1910.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 315 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. In that book it says that Clarinda Rice was born in Johnson County, Kentucky, married Jim Blair, and that their children were Reece (married Susie Webb), Everett (married Roxie Webb), Verlie, Mary (married Raleigh Goble), Lizzie, and Nora (married Paris Fairchild).

Leander Blair's full name was reportedly James Leander Blair. This couldn't be verified, although his name is listed as Jim Blair in the Conley Clan book.

Both Clarinda and Leander must have died before 1910, as their children are found living with various relatives in the census for that year.

Spradlin Cemetery in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (1) CLARENCE PELPHREY, son of MAHALA EMALINE "MOLLIE" PICKLESIMER and BENJAMIN F. PELPHREY, about 1921. He was born May 10, 1907 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died February 16, 1960 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Salyers Cemetery in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (2) NOAH SPRADLIN, son of WILLIAM SPRADLIN and REBECCA HARMON, about 1926. He was born August 4, 1887 in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky, died November 11, 1963 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in John B. Spradlin Cemetery in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky. Clarence Pelphrey married (2) EVA SPEARS. She was born about 1911 in Kentucky.

Notes: When Noah Spradlin's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer, that he had a dependent mother, and that he was born August 4, 1887 in Denver, Kentucky. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had gray eyes and black hair.

According to her obituary, Cordie May Spradlin (age 74), daughter of Thomas and Susan May, was a resident of Denver, Kentucky. She was born November 23, 1903 in Johnson County, died October 15, 1978 at the Paintsville home of her daughter, Geneva Lewis, and was buried in Spradlin Cemetery in Denver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Spradlin. She was survived by 2 sons, James Spradlin (of Dayton, Ohio) and William T. Spradlin (Dayton); 3 daughters, Lillie M. Wiley (Pikeville), Geneva Lewis (Paintsville), and Loretta Houston (Dallas, Texas); 1 sister, Mrs. Marie Blair (Carey, Ohio); 1 half-brother, Herschel Rivers (Leander, Kentucky); 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.      "Clarence Pelphrey, 52, Johnson County Fire Warden, collapsed and died on Third Street about 3:00 p.m. Tuesday while walking to the bus station. He was en route to his home at Oil Springs. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Paintsville Hospital. He was born May 10, 1907, a son of Ben and Emily Pickle Pelphrey. Surviving are his wife Eva Spears Pelphrey, one daughter and one step-son. The body will be removed this afternoon to the residence at Oil Springs from the Paintsville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the home. Burial will be in the Salyers Cemetery at Oil Springs."

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Clarence Pelphrey died February 16, 1960 in Johnson County at the age of 52.

According to his obituary, Noah Spradlin (age 76), son of the late Will and Rebecca Harmon Spradlin, was a retired farmer, a World War I veteran, and a lifelong resident of Denver, Kentucky. He was born August 4, 1887, died November 11, 1963 in a local hospital, and was buried in the family cemetery in Denver. He was survived by his wife, Cordie May Spradlin; 2 son, James Oral Spradlin (of Ivytop) and William T. Spradlin (Dayton, Ohio); 3 daughters, Mrs. Lillie Wiley (Paintsville), Mrs. Geneva Lewis (Paintsville), and Mrs. Loretta Black (Marion, Iowa); 1 brother, Winifred Spradlin (Denver); 20 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Adams lived from 1852 to February 11, 1930, and was buried in the same row in the same cemetery, and that their daughter Josie Adams, their daughter, Sarah, and their daughter, Mary, were all buried in the same row.

According to her death certificate, Rachel Spradlin Adams died December 1, 1913 in Jennies Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, from "Lobar Pneumonia on left side." Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as August 30, 1849, her marital status as married, her parents as James S. Spradlin (b. She was born January 7, 1878 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died October 1, 1928 in Van Lear, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky.

She married SAMUEL PICKLESIMER, son of JOHN PICKLESIMER and MARY "POLLY" TACKETT, March 21, 1857 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born about 1838 in Floyd County, Kentucky, and died before 1910.

In that book it says that Andrew J. Rice was born June 10, 1852, and married Katheryn Conley, daughter of Henry Conley, on November 11, 1873. She was born July 22, 1851, and died September 12, 1911. Their children were Fred M. Rice, Mary L. Rice (b. October 13, 1876, m. F. H. Williams on July 14, 1895), Millard B., Allie, Rebecca, Pearl H., and Bernice G. It also says:

     "Mr. and Mrs. Rice lived at first on a farm on Jennie's Creek. From there they moved to Boyd County. Their address is Box 222, R. F. D. No. 2, Ashland, Kentucky.
     "Mary L. Rice married a son of T. G. Williams, of Virginia. He died May 19, 1897.

Andrew Jackson Rice was the brother of Sherman Rice, and the half-brother of Harrison Rice, Wiley Rice, and Catharine Rice.

R. E. May of Tacoma, Washington is listed as a surviving brother in his brother Reuben's obituary in 1944.

According to her death certificate, Manda Elizabeth Rose Cornette died September 2, 1911 in Fairview, Boyd County, Kentucky, from typhoid fever. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and dark-colored hair.

When Robert E. May's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 26, 1942 in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, he stated that he was working for Lt. Col. A. S. Merrill "Special Services Officer" in Ft. Lewis, Washington, that the person who would always know his address was Mrs. T. C. Gunderson of Seattle, Washington, and that he was born April 22, 1892 in Riceville, Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 10 1/2 inches tall, he weighed 204 pounds, and he had brown eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion.

According to Washington death record transcripts, Robert E. May, son of Thomas G. May and Amanda Conley, was born about 1892, and died December 9, 1957 in Seattle, King County, Washington, at the age of 65.

Blair's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Asa, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Rosa Blair of Asa, and that he was born February 8, 1879. He was found to be tall and stout, and he had brown eyes and brown hair.

She married OLIVER W. CAIN, son of THOMAS CAIN and NANCY MCCOLLEY, March 30, 1856 in Pike County, Kentucky. He was born February 25, 1835 in Pikeville, Pike County, Kentucky, and died about 1893 in Magoffin County, Kentucky.

Notes: Oliver Cain served in Division 39 of the Kentucky Infantry during the Civil War. Nancy Whitt Cain applied for a pension after Oliver died.

According to her death certificate, Nancy A. Whitt Cain died October 21, 1911 in Ivyton from senility and Brights disease. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Russell County, Virginia, her birth date as July 25, 1836, her marital status as widowed, her parents as Henry Whitt (b. Virginia) and Nancy Honaker (b. Virginia), and the informant as H. J. Cain of Bradley, Kentucky.
