He married (1) GRACE CONLEY. He married (2) MARTHA JANE CONLEY, daughter of HARVEY ELSWORTH BURNS CONLEY and REBECCA JANE PRESTON, March 15, 1906 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born June 4, 1885 in Kentucky, died February 2, 1934 in Hager Hill, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Music Cemetery in Hager Hill, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (3) OPAL MAY STANLEY, daughter of LEVI FRANKLIN STANLEY and AMANDA J. MILLER, after 1934. She was born January 28, 1897 in Kentucky, and died December 10, 1977 in Orlando, Orange County, Florida.

According to her death certificate, Alma Stanley Hyden died June 25, 1943 in West Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, from pulmonary tuberculosis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as West Prestonsburg, her birthdate as January 28, 1903, her husband as John Hyden (age 50), her parents as Frank Stanley (b. Virginia) and Manda Miller (b. West Prestonsburg), the informant as John Hyden of West Prestonsburg, and the burial place as West Prestonsburg.

Opal Stanley Blair was living in Orlando, Florida when her step-son Reevie Blair died in 1977, as is indicated in his obituary.

According to Patrick Blair's obituary, Opal Stanley was first married to a man with the last name of Blackburn, but in the 1930 census she is married to James Branahan. "Branahan" is hard to read, but it's definitely not Blackburn. She had 2 children before that marriage, Thomas H. and Dorothy M. There was a Harrison Peters who was born October 27, 1914 in Floyd County to an Othal Stanley. This was probably Thomas H. Stanley/Thomas Harrison Peters.

According to Kentucky birth records, Jilson P. Blair was born June 2, 1878 in Johnson County to Andrew J. Blair and Mahala Pelphrey.

When Patrick Blair's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Hager Hill, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Martha J. Blair of Hager Hill, and that he was born May 26, 1877. He was found to be of medium height and slender build, and he had gray eyes and brown hair.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and photos of their headstones shows that Martha Jane Conley Blair lived from 1885 to February 2, 1934, and was buried in Music-Hyden Cemetery in Hager Hill, that Patrick Blair lived from May 26, 1875 to May 25, 1953, and was buried in the same cemetery, and that Rula Blair lived from October 14, 1891 to March 1, 1962, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to his death certificate, Patrick NMI [no middle initial] Blair died May 25, 1953 in Hager Hill from cancer of the liver. Also on this certificate, is birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as May 26, 1875, his marital status as married, his occupation as self-employed farmer, his parents as Andrew Blair and Mahalia Pelphrey, the informant as Mrs. Lawson King, and the burial place as Music Cemetery in Hager Hill.

ELIZABETH "LIZZIE" RICE, daughter of MARGARET C. PACE and ALEXANDER RICE, was born in March of 1885 in Kentucky, died November 12, 1969 in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio, and is buried in Preston Cemetery in Alger, Hardin County, Ohio. She married STARLING GIBSON, son of JAMES GIBSON and MARY COLLINS, in 1905. He was born June 2, 1884 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died November 16, 1969 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, and is buried in Preston Cemetery in Alger, Hardin County, Ohio.

Notes: There is nothing that absolutely proves that the Lizzie Rice who married Starling Gibson was the daughter of Alexander and Margaret Pace Rice, but everything fits and it will be listed as such here until new information proves otherwise.

Starling Gibson's mother had died, and his father was found living with his 2nd wife, Rebecca Wright, in 1900. His mother is listed as Mary Collins in his obituary, but was also reported to be Elizabeth Trusty.

When Starlin Gipson's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a miner working for Middle Creek Coal Company in Prestonsburg, that his closest relative was Lizzie Gipson of Middle Creek, and that he was born in June of 1882. He was found to be of medium height and build.

When Starling Gibson's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio, he stated that he was born July 2, 1884 in Florida County [sic], Kentucky, and that the person who would always know his address was Mrs. Starling Gibson of Alger, Ohio. He was found to be 5 feet 4 inches tall, he weighed 148 pounds, and he had brown eyes, black hair, and a ruddy complexion. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Elizabeth Gibson lived from 1885 to 1969, and was buried in Section 2 East, Row 10 in Preston Cemetery in Alger, Hardin County, Ohio, and that Starling Gibson lived from 1883 to 1969, and was buried in the same row in the same cemetery.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Elizabe Gibson [sic] was born about 1885, and died November 12, 1969 in Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, Hardin County at the age of 84. She was married at the time of her death.

Starling Gibson's obituary found on findagrave.com:

"DUNKIRK - Services for Starling Gibson, 85, will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, Rev. DeWayne Salisbury officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery.

"Mr. Gibson died at 10:30 a.m. Monday in a Toledo hospital after a lengthy illness. Born June 2, 1884, he was the son of Jim and Mary Collins Gibson. He married Elizabeth Rice in 1905 and she died Nov. 12.

He was born January 3, 1873 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died December 19, 1924 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in James and Rebecca Whitaker Family Cemetery in Whitaker, Floyd County, Kentucky.

Notes: Caleb Whitaker was the brother of Marie Whitaker.

Rebecca Puckett's maiden name was determined by finding obituaries of several of her children; Clara Whitaker (1884-1967), Franklin Whitaker (1885-1964), Jefferson Whitaker (1886-1950), Grover Cleveland Whitaker (1892-1965), Dora Whitaker Blair (1896-1980), and Marie Whitaker Blair (1900-1990), along with Caleb's death certificate.

According to their marriage certificate, Zellie Rice married Caleb Whitaker on April 15, 1911 in Magoffin County. The witnesses were Marget Rice and Boater Whitaker, and the minister was Elijah Whitaker.

When Caleb Whitaker's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer, that his closest relative was Zella Whitaker of Bonanza, Kentucky, and that he was born January 3, 1873. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and brown hair.

A photo of their headstone found online shows that Zella R. Whitaker lived from March 25, 1891 to July 19, 1924, and that Caleb L. Whitaker lived from January 3, 1873 to December 19, 1924.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that Zella and Caleb Whitaker were both buried in James and Rebecca Whitaker Family Cemetery in Whitaker, Floyd County, Kentucky. No headstone photos are provided.

According to her death certificate, Zella Rice Whittaker died July 19, 1924 in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky, from puerperal eclampsia. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Magoffin County, her birth date as March 25, 1891, her marital status as married, her father as Alexander Rice, her mother's maiden name as Pace, and the informant as Caleb Whittaker of Bonanza, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Lella Whittaker died July 19, 1924 in Floyd County at the age of 33.

According to his death certificate, Kalep Whittaker died December 19, 1924 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, when he was thrown from a horse, and then kicked by it. She married CLINTON A. MCFARLAND, son of ELMORE H. MCFARLAND and MARTHA PLUMMER, about 1914. He was born in April of 1868 in Virginia, died March 15, 1940 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, and was buried in Tackett Cemetery in Magoffin County, Kentucky. Clint McFarland married (1) ELIZA WORKMAN, daughter of NARCISSUS LEMASTER and HENRY WORKMAN, February 7, 1899. She was born in September of 1879 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, died August 3, 1911 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

In an article written by Todd Preston [the link was good in 2011], President of the The Magoffin County Historical Society, on August 12, 2010, in The Salyersville Independent newspaper, Todd wrote:

     "Debbie Watson from West Chester, OH and her father from the Louisville area visited here Friday. She was interested in going to see the Tackett Cemetery on Rt. 40 near String Town where her kinsman Clint McFarlan is buried. I took them to visit the cemetery.
     "Clint McFarlan was born in 1868 and died in the 1940s. He married 7 Feb 1899 to Eliza Workman who was born in 1859 and died in 1911. She was a daughter of Henry Workman and Narcissus Lemaster. Narcissus was a daughter of Ambrose Lemaster and his first wife Nancy McGuire. Ambrose married secondly to "Granny" Fanny Shaver. You may remember that a monument was set recently for her and a twin marker is in the planning stage for Ambrose Lemaster and his first wife and children. Ambrose is buried in the Lemaster Cemetery behind the Falcon School and there is no access road except up the Tom Prater hollow.
     "Clint McFarlan was a son of Elmore McFarlan b. 1838. Elmore was a son of F. Willman McFarlan b. 1816 Russell Co. VA and a grandson of Christopher McFarlan b. 1790 d. 1830 Russell Co. VA. Christopher was a son of Alexander McFarlan b. 1727 (a Revolutionary War soldier). Alexander was a son of Duncan McFarland and Ann Porter.

Virginia), his mother's maiden name as Plummer, and the burial place as Tackett Cemetery.

She married (1) (unknown first name) HELTON. She married (2) WALLACE B. HANNAH, son of ENOCH HANNAH and MIRANDA EMELINE ARMS. He was born August 8, 1897 in Kentucky, died April 29, 1929 in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Harmon Hannah Cemetery in Jennies Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (3) FRANK GIBSON JR., son of MAHALA SAYLOR and FRANK GIBSON. He was born about 1902 in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky, died June 15, 1968 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, and is buried in Lake Township Cemetery in Walbridge, Wood County, Ohio. Wallace Hannah married (1) BESSIE BROWN.

Hulda's sister, Cassie Jackson Gibson, her husband Leander, their son Bernie, and Hulda's 2nd husband, Wallace Hannah, were all murdered on the same day. Wallace's brother, Wayne, was injured in the shootout. Read about the 1929 Johnson County Shootout here.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Hulda A. Gibson lived from 1906 to 1990, and was buried in Lake Township Cemetery in Walbridge, Wood County, Ohio, and that Frank J. Gibson lived from 1902 to 1968, and was buried in the same cemetery.

     "Hulda Gibson, 83, died Monday, January 1, in Findlay, Ohio. Mrs. Gibson was born March 1, 1906, in Johnson County, the daughter of Issiah Jackson and Sara Liz Saylor. She was a member of Green Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gibson, Jr., in 1968. Surviving are one son, Smith Helton of Sidney, Indiana; five daughters, Ella Collins of Fostoria, Ohio; Bethel Yates of Warsaw, Indiana; Marlene Yates of Fremont, Ohio; Maggie Good of Silverlake, Indiana, and Irene Fairchild of Toledo, Ohio; one brother, Eddie Jackson of Warsaw; and 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 4, at 11 a.m., in Witzeler-Shank Funeral Home in Walbridge, Ohio, with Revs. Paul Tyree and Clarence Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Lake Township Cemetery."
