According to his obituary, "Jess Boyd Ward, 38, died suddenly at 1:10 a.m., December 23, 1958 of a heart attack while visiting here at the home of his father-in-law, McKinley Baldwin. He was the son of G. Mack Ward and Ethel Boyd Ward, and for three years been a resident of Middlesex, N. J. where he was Eastern Sales Manager for Selwyn-Pacific Company of Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Ward was a brother of County Judge Bill Ward of this city, and was a member of a prominent Johnson County family. He was born at Thelma in this county on October 23, 1920, and was a graduate of Paintsville High School. He attended Morehead State College, and University of Kentucky, and Southern Technical Institute at Atlanta, Ga., where he obtained a degree in associate engineering. He was active in politics and was a candidate for lieutenant governor of Kentucky in the Democratic primary four years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, and served on active duty from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Ward was married to Imogene Baldwin at Pikeville on December 24, 1941. Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Linda Lee Ward, 15, his parents, one brother and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Ann Akers, Fort Thomas, Ky." "Burial was in the Gambill Cemetery at Thelma."
