LEE LAURA MAY, son of CALEB SHERMAN MAY and MARTHA LOUISE MUSIC, was born April 5, 1900 in Kentucky, and died after 1930. He married VIOLA HAYDEN, daughter of JOHN HAYDEN and ROSA L. DOWNING, about 1921. She was born August 16, 1897 in Kentucky, and died July 8, 1992 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 366 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. In that book it says that Lee May was born April 5, 1900 and marryed Viola Hayden, who was born August 16, 1897. It also says that Lee May went missing in the summer of 1926, leaving behind 2 children. This could've been 1936, as Lee is in the 1930 census.

When Lee Laura May's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 7, 1918 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a working in the Heel Department of Sellry's Shoe Company in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, that his closest relative was Martha May of Myrtle, Floyd County, Kentucky, and that he was born April 5, 1900. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Viola M. May died August 16, 1897, and died July 8, 1892. She received her Social Security card prior to 1951 in Ohio, and her last place of residence was in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.

When James Prater's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer in Myrtle, Floyd County, that his closest relative was Alex Prater of Myrtle, and that he was born December 31, 1898. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had brown eyes and brown hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Ella C. Prater lived from 1902 to 1985, and was buried in Mershon Cemetery [the same cemetery that her parents are buried in] in West Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, and that James Prater lived from 1898 to 1977, and was buried in the same cemetery.

She was born October 12, 1869 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died March 18, 1917 in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Stanley Cemetery in Floyd County, Kentucky.

Notes: Albert M. Hamilton was the brother of Henry Clay Hamilton.

There were three unnamed children born in Abbott Creek, Floyd County, (one in 1855, one in 1856, and one in 1857, all alive) to James J. and Olly Wireman Hamilton.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Calista Hamilton lived from 1886 to 1929, and was buried in Winters Cemetery in Maloneton, Greenup County, Kentucky, and that A. M. Hamilton was born in 1872. There is no death date for him, so it's uncertain if he's actually buried in this cemetery.

According to her death certificate, Clista Conley Hamilton died January 12, 1929 in Beechy, Greenup County, Kentucky, from "Flu she died before I saw her." Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as July 30, 1886, her marital status as married, her parents as F. P. Conley (b. Kentucky) and Elizabeth Fitchpatrick (b. Kentucky), the informant as A. M. Hamilton of Maloneton, and the burial place as Winters Cemetery.

Henry Clay Skeens was the brother of Manerva Skeens, who married Raymond Goble, son of Pearl Calista Kendrick and Elijah Goble.

When Henry Clay Skeans' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a coal miner in Prestonsburg, that his closest relative was Dora Skeans of Middle Creek, Floyd County, and that he was born September 30, 1899. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Rosa Skeens died August 11, 1970 in Floyd County at the age of 63. She was living in Floyd County at the time of her death.

He was found to be tall and slender, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

Information found on findagrave.com and photos of their headstones shows that Franklin P. Conley lived from May 9, 1894 to May 15, 1971, and was buried in Richmond Memorial Cemetery in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, and that Lucy Conley lived from November 27, 1898 to February 16, 1979, and was buried in the same cemetery. Paris' headstone also shows that he served as a private in the U.S. Army in World War I.

Richard D. Prater was the brother of David Prater.

According to her death certificate, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward Prater died January 23, 1946 in Millstone, Letcher County, Kentucky, from a cerebral hemorrhage, senility, and chronic nephritis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Whitehouse, Kentucky, her birth date as February 8, 1874, her marital status as widowed, her parents as David Ward (b. Floyd County) and Cinda Johnson (b. Floyd County, the informant as Richard Prater of Millstone, and the burial place as Offutt, Kentucky.

According to his death certificate, Lonnie Prater died November 1, 1918 in White House, Johnson County, Kentucky, when he was "Mashed in mines with piece of fallen slate." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as September 28, 1896, his marital status as single, his occupation as coal miner, his parents as Harrison Prater (b. Pike County) and Lizzie Ward (b. Johnson County), and the burial place as Prater Graveyard.

According to his death certificate, John Prater died August 31, 1930 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from a fractured skull and amputated legs after being ran over by a train. He was intoxicated at the time. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as October 24, 1902, his marital status as married, his wife as Ossie Sparks, his occupation as coal miner, his father as Harrison Prater (b. Offutt, Kentucky), his mother's maiden name as not known, the informant as hospital records, and the burial place as Offutt, Kentucky.

According to his obituary, "John Prater, age about 30, received injuries at Offutt, Ky., from which he died later, when his body was ground beneath a passing locomotive. Just how the accident happened is not definitely known. Mr. and Mrs. Prater had been visiting Deo Sparks, Prater's father-in-law. On the evening of the fatal accident Prater had gone to the home of a neighbor to transact some trivial business. During the interval a freight train passed and Prater's mangled body was picked up from the railroad tracks by neighbors who discovered his plight. It is not known whether he attempted to board the moving train and was thrown under the wheels or wether he was run down. He was rushed to the Painstville Hospital for examination and treatment. Both legs were badly mangled besides bodily bruises and cuts. Both legs were amputated in an effort to save his life, but loss of blood and the shock from the operation were too much and he died shortly after leaving the operating table. The remains were taken to the undertaking department of the Paintsville Furniture Co., and prepared for burial which took place at Offutt Monday afternoon. Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and a photo of their headstone shows that Malta Rice Pelphrey lived from February 9, 1898 to July 11, 1937, was buried in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, that Challie Pelphrey lived from January 21, 1899 to December 16, 1972, was buried in the same cemetery, and that Mollie Salyer Pelphrey [no headstone photo] lived from November 5, 1909 to August 1, 1980, and was buried in Pluma Blevins Cemetery in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. Johnson County Memorial Cemetery is a cemetery that was used extensively for re-interment of burials from other cemeteries due to the construction of Paintsville Lake and road construction throughout Johnson County.

He married ESTELLA N. CHATFIELD, daughter of LAGRAND CHATFIELD and ANGELINE PRESTON, in l910 in Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky. She was born in August of 1878 in Ohio, and died March 5, 1961 in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.

Notes: When Ellis Callahan Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was working for the state as a member of the State Board of Accounting, that his closest relative was Estella Conley of Catlettsburg, and that he was born August 3, 1883. He was found to be 5 feet 8 inches tall, of slender build, and he had dark blue eyes and black hair.

Conley's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia, he stated that he was self-employed in Huntington, West Virginia, that the person who would always know his address was Mrs. Estella Conley of Huntington, and that he was born August 3, 1883 in Johnson County, Kentucky. According to his obituary, Ellis C. He was a member of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, Guyan Country Club and the Huntington Kiwanis Club. He was born in August of 1883 in Johnson County, died from a heart attack at home in Huntington on December 13, 1956, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio. He was married in Catlettsburg in 1940 [mistake] to Estella Chatfield, who survived him. He was also survived by 1 brother, Leonard Conley; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Ollie Hill (of Prestonsburg) and Mrs. Grace Chatfield (Ashland). Young Conley was a graduate of Oil Springs High School, class of 1937. He was known as a good student, well liked, and active in Future Farmers of America organization at Oil Springs. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1937. His grandfather, Clark Conley, lives at Oil Springs. His father Ross Conley, died some years ago. Three brothers survive; Tom Walter Conley and Homer Lee Conley, both of Oil Springs, and Ellis Ross Conley, who volunteered in the Navy only three weeks ago. Three half sisters and one half brother also survive; Joy Mae Helton, Helen Christine Helton, Grace Evelyn Helton and Paul Edward Helton. Although other boys have been reported missing this is the first definite information of the loss of life of a Johnson County boy reported either by the Navy or War Departments." FORREST TECUMSEH CONLEY, son of JOHN MILTON CONLEY and MARIETTA WOODS, was born July 1, 1885 in Kentucky, and died April 2, 1973 in Clearwater, Pinellas County, Florida. He married CLAUSIE PICKLESIMER, daughter of NATHANIEL LINDSEY PICKLESIMER and LEVA ANN LEMASTER, about 1908. She was born September 1, 1884 in Kentuckyin Levittown, and died in August of 1967 in Levittown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 372 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. In that book it says that Clausie Picklesimer, daughter of Nathanial and Lexian Lemasters Picklesimer, was born September 1, 1884, married Forest T. Conley, and that their children were Hubert Huston Conley, Opal Gladys Conley, Otis Glenn Conley, Harry Partee Conley, F. T. Conley Jr., and Mary Lucile Conley. It also says: "Forest T. Conley lived for a number of years at Frankfort, Kentucky, and was in the revenue service until the time of prohibition, after which time he was connected with the American Railway Express. He was transferred to Philadelphia in 1926."

Nathaniel Lindsey Picklesimer was the brother of Redmond Wayne Picklesimer.

According to his death certificate, N. L. Picklesimer died September 7, 1912 in Sitka, Johnson County, Kentucky, and the cause of death is listed as "Shot in face & neck purposely by his son [Osric] with shot gun." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as January 28, 1864, his marital status as married, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Philip Picklesimer (b. Johnson County) and Eliza Salyers (b. Scott County, Virginia), the informant as Mrs. N. L. Picklesimer of Volga, Kentucky, and the burial place as Mud Lick Graveyard. His son was put on trial and acquitted.

According to her obituary, Leva Ann Lemaster Picklesimer (age 84), daughter of Daniel and Katherine Salyer Lemaster, was born June 28, 1864 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died from a heart attack on February 26, 1949 at the Smiths Grove, Kentucky, home of her daughter, Mrs. Cassie Hitchcock, and was buried in White House Cemetery in Volga, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Picklesimer, 35 years prior. She was survived by 2 sons, Oakley Picklesimer (of Volga) and Callie Picklesimer (North Lewisburg, Ohio); 3 daughters, Mrs. Clausie Conley (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Mrs. Cassie Hitchcock, and Mrs. Hazel Sturgill (Flat Gap, Kentucky); and 2 sisters, Mrs. Jane Bayes (Blaine, Kentucky) and Mrs. Margaret Green (Chandlerville, Kentucky). When Forest Tecumseh Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Woodford County, Kentucky, he stated that he was working for the U.S. Government, that his closest relative was "Wife Clausie Conley" of Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky, and that he was born July 1, 1885. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and dark-colored hair.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Forrest T. Conley wasa born July 1, 1885, and died May 15, 1973. He received his Social Security card in 1955-1956 in Washington, D.C., and his last place of residence was in Clearwater, Pinellas County, Florida.

According to Florida death record transcripts, Forrest T. Conley was born July 1, 1885, and died April 2, 1973 in Pinellas County at the age of 87.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Clausie Conley was born September 1, 1884, and died in August of 1967. She received her Social Security card prior to 1951 in Pennsylvania, and her last place of residence was in Levittown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Also listed are Levi Ann (wife, born in June of 1865 in Kentucky, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Virginia, married for 16 years, she's given birth to 8 children and 6 are still living, age 35), Clausie (daughter, born in September of 1884 in Kentucky, age 15), Osric (son, born in June of 1885 in Kentucky, age 14), Doris (daughter, born in February of 1889 in Kentucky, age 11), Oakley (son, born in March of 1894 in Kentucky, age 6), Dolin (daughter, born in February of 1896 in Kentucky, age 4), and Challey (son, born in March of 1899 in Kentucky, age 1).
