Hester Ann Auxier was the sister of Sarah Jemima Auxier, as is shown in her obituary (below).

From Joe Conley, great-grandson of Deal Pelphrey:

"Frank Pelphrey was a complex man. He lived too fast. He drank too much. He had an eye for the ladies. And yet, everyone who I have spoken with concerning Uncle Frank speaks of what a good man he was and how much they loved him. To my grandfather, Jesse, Frank was the father he never had. If Pappa had any troubles in live, Frank was the one he wanted standing beside him.

"Frank left his family for a woman in West Virginia. On the day he left, he sat on my grandfather Jesse's porch. They drank whiskey, ate hot peppers, and talked. My Granny Pelphrey told me that at the end of the conversation, Pappa was very upset. If she knew what was said, she never told me. A few years later, a sheriff from West Virginia showed up at Granny Laura's door. Apparently the woman Frank was living with and her brother had run afoul of the law. While Frank was not in on their illegal activity, he was considered guilty by association. Granny Laura was given the option of going to West Virginia and bringing Frank home or Frank would have to do time in jail. My Pappa Jesse, Granny Laura, and Frank's wife, aunt Merzie went to West Virginia and got Frank.

"For the rest of his days, Frank remained unchanged. He was always free-spirited. His nieces and nephews recall that he always had a story to tell or some scheme to make them laugh. Uncle Frank was genuinely loved.

"One of the most poignant stories related to me was by my cousin and Frank's niece Mable Pelphrey Hazelette. In Uncle Frank's last days, he was overcome by a cancer in his mid-section. The nature of the disease was that it ate away the flesh surrounding his pelvic region and hips. Mabel had come to visit Uncle Frank on his death bed.

"'Come look at this,' Frank beaconed, motioning toward his bandages.

"'I don't want to see that, Uncle Frank,' said Mabel.

"'You need to see this,' Uncle Frank assured her.

"As Mable drew near, wondering why she needed to see Frank's cancer, Frank pulled the bandages aside to reveal the disease which had rotted away his flesh.

"'Always remember this,' Frank said. 'You reap just what you sow.'"
