He was born January 7, 1854 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died November 5, 1925 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Trimble Cemetery in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky.

April 18, 1881, d. July 13, 1912, married Flora Horne), Elzie Trimble (married Ona Craft), Bruce Trimble (married Norsie Reed), Boone Trimble (married Rosa Lemaster), Wince Trimble (single), Quince Trimble (married Lessie Lemaster), Shelta Trimble (married a Coldiron), Clara Trimble, Mahala Trimble (married Bird Preston), Bertha Trimble (married Crate Davis), Della Trimble (married Leonard Caudill), Elmer S. Trimble (married Tera Barnett), and Harry B. Trimble (married Bessie Adams). It also says:

     "J. M. Trimble was in the general merchandise business on Barnetts Creek for forty years. In the last years of his life he bought the George B. Rice farm at Hagerhill, where he lived at the time of his death.
     "Wince Trimble is a member of the fiscal court of Johnson County, and very active for the improvement of the roads of the county."

According to her death certificate, Clarinda Spradlin Trimble died May 25, 1941 in Hager Hill from pulmonary edema. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Denver, her birth date as April 8, 1860, her marital status as widowed, her parents as William Spradlin (b. Johnson County) and Mahala Conley (b. Johnson County), the informant as Wince Trimble of Paintsville, Kentucky, and the burial place as Barnetts Creek, Kentucky.

According to her obituary, Clerinda Frances Trimble (age 81), was born in 1860 in Denver, died May 24, 1941 at home in Hager Hill after 3 years of heart problems, and was buried in the home cemetery on the old homestead farm. At one point, she had 11 sons in the U.S. Army at the same time, fighting in World War I overseas. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mark Trimble, and 5 children. She was survived by the following children: Elzie Trimble (of Hager Hill), Elmer Trimble (Proctorsville, Ohio), Bruce Trimble (Barnetts Creek), D. B. Trimble (former Paintsville Chief of Police living in Barnetts Creek), Harry Trimble (Pikeville), Wince Trimble (Paintsville), Quince Trimble (Kise, Kentucky), Mrs. Della Hubbard (Wadsworth, Ohio), Mrs. Mahala Preston (Barnetts Creek), Mrs. Shella Coldiron (Columbus, Ohio), and Miss Clara Trimble (Detroit, Michigan). FRANK JACKSON CONLEY, son of JAMES HAYDEN CONLEY and CYNTHIA ELLEN RICE, was born December 17, 1882 in Rockhouse, Johnson County, Kentucky, died August 10, 1962 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Richmond Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married CLARA MOLLETT, daughter of JOHN R. MOLLETT and ALICE DAVIS, February 4, 1911 in Boons Camp, Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in 1888 in Greasy Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, died November 16, 1956 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Richmond Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

In that book it says that Frank Conley was born December 17, 1882, married Clara Mollett, daughter of John R. Mollett, and that their children were Alice Vivian Conley, Frances Ellen Conley, Rubie Virginia Conley, and Joanna Conley. It also says:

     "F. J. Conley received his education in the Paintsville city schools, the Sandy Valley Seminary, and the State Normal School at Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was the principal of the Van Lear schools for four years, after which time he spent a yeara teaching in Oklahoma. He soon returned to his native county, where he taught two years in the rural schools, before entering the employ of the North-East Coal Company at Thealka. In 1919 he and some of his associates left the company and organized the Paintsville Furniture Company, a firm of which he is now at the head. Mr. Conley will be best remembered for his value in the school room, although he is an efficient manager of the furniture business."

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Frank J. Conley (parents b. Johnson County, age 25) married Clara Mollett (parents b. Johnson County, age 23) on February 4, 1911 in Johnson County.

When Frank Jackson Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a store clerk working for North East Coal Company in Thealka, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Clara Conley of Thealka, and that he was born December 17, 1882. He was found to be of medium height and slender build, and he had light brown eyes and auburn hair.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and photos of their headstones shows that Frank J. Conley lived from December 17, 1882 to August 10, 1962, and was buried in Section 5 of Richmond Cemetery in Paintsville, and that Clara M. Conley lived from 1888 to 1956, and was buried in the same section of the same cemetery.

     "Frank Jackson Conley, 79, retired businessman and prominent resident of this city, died suddenly around 5:30 a.m. Friday, August 10 [1962], at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roger Stewart, Second Street. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Conley, one of ten children, was born at Rockhouse December 17, 1882, a son of the late James Hayden and Ellen Rice Conley, members of two of Johnson County’s influential and outstanding families. He received his early educational training in the public schools of this county and attended the Sandy Valley Seminary, completing his education at Bowling Green Business University. Following completion of his schooling, he returned to Paintsville, served as a substitute teacher at Sandy Valley Seminary and became the first principal of the Van Lear School. Later he went to Oklahoma where he was in charge of the commercial department of the Ada High School. Returning to Paintsville, he left the educational field, after ten years of teaching, and became a successful businessman with the establishment in 1919 of the Paintsville Furniture Co., which later operated at the Paintsville Furniture and Funeral Home. Mr. Conley attended the Cincinnati School of Embalming and was the first licensed funeral director and mortician in Eastern Kentucky. He became a member of the Mayo Methodist Church in 1910 and remained loyal and devoted throughout the years, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and as a member of the official board. A progressive citizen, he was always interested and active in civic affairs and served as a member of the City Council and of the Board of Education. He also served as secretary of the Rotary Club for many years. Until his illness and retirement, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Mr. Conley was held in affectionate regard and high esteem by his associates and his many friends throughout this section. He was married in 1911 at Boons Camp to Clara Mollett, who preceded him in death November 16, 1956. Surviving besides Mrs. Stewart, are three other daughters, Mrs. Emmett Odgen, Carrollton; Mrs. J. O. Harris, Wheelwright; Mrs. Carl Swisher, Huntington, WV; a sister, Mrs. Ray Turner, Turner Branch; a brother, Fonzo Conley, Staffordsville. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mayo Memorial Methodist Church by the Rev. David Ross and Rev. C. F. Allen. Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery."

She was survived by her husband, Frank J. Conley, who owned and operated the Paintsville Furniture Company until he retired about a year prior. She was also survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Roger Stewart (of Paintsville), Mrs. Emmit Ogden (Carrollton), Mrs. Bill Harris (Wheelwright), and Mrs. Carl Swisher (Huntington, West Virginia); 2 brothers, Ben Mollett (Phoenix, Arizona) and Joe Mollett (Columbus, Ohio); and 7 grandchildren. According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, John Senters (age 28) married Mary Blair (age 29) on September 16, 1871 in Johnson County.

Mary Blair's maiden name also was confirmed by finding a death record of a baby girl that was stillborn on September 11, 1875 in Johnson County. Her parents are listed as John Senters (b. Clay County) and Mary Blair (b. Johnson County). There was also an unnamed boy who was born to John and Mary in November of 1876. That was probably Thomas.

When Tom Centers' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was working for B.S. & K.R. Railroad in Riceville, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Liddie Center (wife) of Denver, Johnson County, and that he was born in 1877. He was found to be of medium height and stout build, and he had blue eyes and black hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Lydia Conley Centers lived from March 22, 1880 to May 23, 1956, and was buried in Sherman Spradlin Cemetery in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky, and that Tom Centers lived from October 16, 1869 to October 15, 1959, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to her obituary, Lydia Conley Centers (age 76), daughter of the late Tom and Sarah Reynolds Conley, was a resident of Denver, Kentucky, for most of her life. She was born March 22, 1880 in Johnson County, died May 23, 1956 at the Volga, Kentucky, home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Stapleton, and was buried in Spradlin Cemetery in Denver. When Wilber Spears' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Denver, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Ella Spears of Denver, and that he was born September 24, 1878. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and a photo of their headstone shows that Wilber Spears lived from September 24, 1878 to April 18, 1941, and was buried in Stafford-Hager Cemetery in Hager Hill, and that Ella Wiley Spears lived from October 14, 1885 to 1974, and was buried in the same cemetery. Son Edgar was buried in the same cemetery, as was daughter Goldia and her husband, and daughter Sylvia and her husband.

According to his death certificate, Wilbur Spears died April 18, 1941 in Paintsville Hospital in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from a fractured skull that he got in an accident on a public highway. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as September 24, 1878, his marital status as married, his wife as Ella Wiley (age 54), his occupation as farmer, his parents as Enoch Spears (b. Kentucky) and Tempa Jane Conley (b. Kentucky), the informant as Roy Spears of Wayland, Kentucky, and the burial place as Hager Hill, Kentucky.

"Hager Hill Man Killed Sat. In Peculiar Accident
"Wilbur Spears, 63 years old, was killed in a peculiar manner along the Mayo trail near his home at Hager Hill last Saturday night.
"Mr. Spears and wife were returning to their home after attending church. Mr. Spears was using a flash light to walk by as well as to serve as a signal for passing motorists. The light went out and Spears was hit by a boy riding a bicycle and knocked to the pavement with such force that his skull was crushed. The boy was thrown from the bicycle and was badly injured with a fractured skull.
"Mr. Spears had lived at Hager hill for the past twenty years and was known as a good citizen. His untimely death brings much sorrow to the people of the Hager Hill community. Much sympathy is expressed for his widow and children.
"He was born at Collista, Ky., and was married to Ella Wiley, of River, Ky., who survives.
"In addition to his widow he is survived by four children; Ray Spears, Wayland, Ky.; Mrs. Sylva Vance, West Van Lear; Mrs. Golda Dixon, Wayland, Ky., and Mrs. Ella Webb, Leander, Ky.
"He is also survived by three brothers and one sister as follows: Edgar Spears, Collista; Crate Spears, Paintsville; Mrs. Jesse Blair, Whitesburg, and Marcus Spears, Van Lear.
"Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. S. C. Honeycutt and Rev. Millard VanHoose, officiating.
"Burial was made in the Stafford Cemetery at Hager hill.
"Undertaker J. A. Jones, of the Paintsville Furniture Company, directed the funeral and burial."

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Thomas J. Dixon (age 32) married Eliza Jane McFarlan [sic] (age 19) on December 3, 1873 in Johnson County.

When James Franklin Dixon's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Riceville, Kentucky, that he was single, and that he was born November 26, 1887 in Oil Springs, Kentucky. He was found to be of medium height and build, he had blue eyes and light-colored hair, and he claimed that he should be exempt from the draft for the "Purpose of Farming & Teaching.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and a photo of their headstone shows that Goldia Mae Spears Dixon lived from November 11, 1902 to July 20, 1948, and was buried in Stafford-Hager Cemetery in Hager Hill, and that James Franklin Dixon lived from November 26, 1887 to August 20, 1968, and was buried in the same cemetery. It also says that they were married July 31, 1919 in Johnson County and that James F. Dixon was a private in the U.S. Army during World War I. Their son, Jack Mitchell Dixon lived from July 3, 1931 to July 15, 1932, and was buried in Stafford-Hager Cemetery as well.

According to her death certificate, Goldia Mae Dixon died July 20, 1948 in Wayland, Floyd County, Kentucky, from coronary thrombosis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as November 11, 1902, her marital status as married, her husband as James F. Dixon (age 60), her parents as Wilbur Spears (b. Kentucky) and Ella Wiley (b. Kentucky), the informant as J. F. Dixon of Wayland, and the burial place as Hager Hill.

The website also shows that Sherman Castle lived from January 28, 1902 to July 28, 1953, and was buried in Hager Hill Cemetery in Hager Hill, Johnson County, Kentucky. There was no photo of Sherman's headstone.

Information on this family can also be found on pages 330 & 486 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. In that book it says that William I. McCloud was born November 27, 1875, and married Hattie Conley, daughter of John Elliott and Susan James Conley, on December 21, 1899. Their children were Myrtie, Herschell, Sophie (school teacher), Beecher, Vivian, and Charles Herman. It also says "William I. McCloud married second to Net (Fitch) Dills. He lived for many years on Jennie's Creek near where the road to Paintsville through Henclip leaves the creek. He now lives in Paintsville, Kentucky."

William McCloud's sister, Elizabeth, married Hattie Conley's uncle, Cyrus.

Jeanetta Fitzpatrick was the mother of Edna Dills. She was also the sister of Martha Jane Fitzpatrick and Rhoda Fitzpatrick, who married William Mason Johnson, son of William H. Johnson and Arminta Sowards.

The H. E. Conley Cemetery is also known as C. C. Meade Cemetery.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, W. I. McCloud (age 24) married Hattie Conley (age 20) on December 21, 1899 in Johnson County.

McCloud's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated He was a self-employed farmer in Denver, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Hatti McCloud of Denver, and that he was born November 27, 1875. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

According to her death certificate, Hattie McCloud died February 20, 1924 in Johnson County from cholecystitis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, her birth date as November of 1879, her age as 44 years 3 months, her marital status as married, her parents as John E. Conley (b. Johnson County) and Susan James (b. West Virginia), the informant as Herschel McCloud of Paintsville, Kentucky, and the burial place as the family cemetery.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Hattie McCloud died February 20, 1924 in Jessamine County at the age of 44.

According to his death certificate, William Ireland McCloud died May 31, 1945 in Paintsville from coronary thrombosis. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as November 27, 1875, his marital status as married, his occupation as retired coal miner, his parents as George W. McCloud (b. Virginia) and Angeline Coffee (b. Kentucky), the informant as Beecher McCloud of Stambaugh, Kentucky, and the burial place as Collista. It also says that he was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.

According to his obituary, William Ireland McCloud (age 69), son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George McCloud, was born in Paintsville, where he spent his entire life, died suddenly from a heart attack on the morning of May 31, 1945, and was buried in the Conley Cemetery. He was a Spanish American War Veteran and had seen action in the Philippines during that war. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Hattie Conley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Conley, both deceased. She died 21 years prior. He later married Mrs. Nettie Dills, who survived him. He was also survived by 6 children from his first marriage; Herschell McCloud (of Collista), Beecher McCloud (of Stambaugh), Charles McCloud (Paintsville), Mrs. Norman Horn (Paintsville), Mrs. Paris Kimbler (Paintsville), and Mrs. James Castle (Auxier); 2 brothers, Alphonzo McCloud (West Van Lear) and Joe McCloud (Pineville); 3 sisters, Emily Wells [Emily McCloud Wells] (Washington D.C.), Bessie Redford [Bessie McCloud Redford] (Fairfield, Ohio), and Lizzie Conley [Elizabeth McCloud Conley] (Paintsville); and 1 half-brother, Luther McCloud (of Martin].

After Hattie Conley died, William McCloud married Jeanetta Fitzpatrick Dills, widow of Thomas Dills (Thomas died about 1924). According to her death certificate, Jeanetta McCloud died March 9, 1947 in Paintsville from coronary thrombosis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as January 7, 1875, her marital status as widow, her husband as W. I. McCloud, her parents as John Fitch [John Fitzpatrick] (b. Virginia) and Sarah Foster (b. Tennessee), and the informant as Mrs. June Sammons of Meally, Kentucky. Jeanetta was buried in Turner Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

According to her obituary, Jeanetta Fitch Dills McCloud (age 72), daughter of the late John and Sarah Foster Fitch, died March 8, 1947 at home in West Paintsville following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. J. McCloud. She was survived by 4 sons, John Dills (of Paintsville), William Dills (Paintsville), Charles Dills (Paintsville), and Ernest Dills (Erlanger, Kentucky); 3 daughters, Mrs. Edna Mahan (Paintsville), Mrs. Virgie Lovely (Paintsville), and Mrs. June Samons [June Sammons] (Meally, Kentucky); 2 brothers, James Fitch and Elliot Fitch; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary McCarty (Denver, Kentucky) and Mrs. Rhoda Johnson (Denver). Also listed are Hattie (wife, born in Kentucky, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Virginia, 1st marriage, she's given birth to 4 children and all are still living, age 30), Myrtie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 8), Herschel (son, born in Kentucky, age 7), Sophia (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 5), and Beecher (son, born in Kentucky, age 3).

On page 19 of the 1920 census for District 30 (Paintsville) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated January 22, 1920), Willie I. McCloud is listed as the head of the household for house #50, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and he's 44 years old. Also listed are Hattie (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 40), Vernie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 18), Hurshel (son, born in Kentucky, age 17), Sophia (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 15), Beecher (son, born in Kentucky, age 13), Vivian M. (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 6), and Charles H. (son, born in Kentucky, age 3 years 8 months). They are living next to Hattie's parents.

On page 33 of the 1930 census for District 58-1 (Paintsville) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated April 9, 1930), William McCloud is listed as the head of the household for house #343, he's a miner, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at age 24, and he's 54 years old. Also listed are Nett (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at 18, age 54), Charles McCloud (son, born in Kentucky, age 13), Willie Dills (step-son, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 20), June Dills (step-daughter, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 17), and Charles Dills (step-son, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 12.

On page 16 of the 1940 census for District 58-1A (Paintsville) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated April 9, 1940), William I. McCloud is listed as the head of the household for house #165, he's a coal miner, born in Kentucky, he's living in the same place that he was in 1935, he has a 6th grade education, and he's 64 years old. Also listed are Nettie (wife, born in Kentucky, 4th grade education, age 64), and Billie Jr. (son, single, coal miner, born in Kentucky, 6th grade education, age 31).
