HARRISON B. BLAIR, son of LYDIA M. BLAIR and (unknown), was born June 15, 1859 in Kentucky, and died November 8, 1921 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) LYDIA A. HITCHCOCK, daughter of NIMROD HITCHCOCK and MARY PELPHREY. She was born in February of 1866 in Kentucky, and died about 1901. He married (2) CHARLOTTE "LOTTIE" CLAY, daughter of DANIEL J. CLAY and SARAH ANN (unknown last name), April 15, 1902. She was born August 25, 1870 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died November 22, 1950 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 370), Harrison "Harry" Blair, son of Susan Conley and John Blair, was born in 1859, and that his children were Crossford (b. 1884), Cyrus (b. 1887), Darius (b. 1888), Ulysses (b. 1891), Bruce (b. 1892), Goldia (b. 1894), and Verie (b. 1899).

According to Paintsville genealogist and family historian, Joseph Eugene Conley, Harrison B. Blair was born in June of 1859, and died November 8, 1921. He married (1) Lydia Hitchcock, daughter of Nimrod Hitchcock and Mary Pelphrey, November 24, 1883. She was born in February of 1866, and died about 1901. He married (2) Lottie Clay on April 15, 1902. She was born about 1870.

Harrison Blair claims that he was born in June of 1859 in the 1900 census and he's 11 years old in the census for 1870. But in 1860 his mother is living with her parents and Harrison isn't found in that house.

There are reports that say that Harrison Blair's father was a man by the name of Elijah Cantrell. On his death certificate his parents are listed as Eliga Blare and Nanie Blare.

Lottie Clay isn't in the 1870 census (page 6 of the 1870 census for Hoods Fork in Johnson County, Kentucky), nor is her older brother, Henry. In 1880 Henry is 11 and Lottie is 10.

Lottie's mother's maiden name was reportedly Sarah Ann Murray and she reportedly died about 1880.

According to his death certificate, Harrison Blare died November 8, 1921 in Paintsville from heart dropsy. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as June 15, 1859, his marital status as married, his occupation as laborer, his parents as Eliga Blare (b. Kentucky) and Nanie Blair (b. Kentucky), the informant as Lottie Blare of Paintsville, and the burial place as Paintsville.

According to her death certificate, Lottie Clay Blair died November 22, 1950 in Paintsville from lobar pneumonia. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, her birth date as August 25, 1868, her marital status as widowed, her parents as D. J. Clay and Sarah Jane [last name blank], the informant as Tom Blair, and the burial place as Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville.

According to her obituary, Lottie Clay Blair (age 82), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Clay, was born August 25, 1868 in Johnson County, died November 22, 1950 at home in Paintsville where she had lived for 29 years, and was buried in Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville. She was survived by 1 son, Tom Blair (of Paintsville); 2 daughters, Mrs. Teria Nelson (Paintsville) and Mrs. Erie Riche (Paintsville); 4 step-sons, Liss Blair (Leander), Bruce Blair (Dwale), Drice [Darius] Blair (Volga), and Crossford Blair (Win, Kentucky); 2 step-daughters, Mrs. Goldie Blair Van Hoose [Paintsville) and Mrs. Veria Blair Van Hoose (Paintsville); 1 brother, Sam Clay (Los Angeles, California); and 2 sisters, Mrs. Jane Picklesimer (Indiana) and Dashia Clay (Paintsville). On page 1 of the 1870 census for Barnetts Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 17, 1870), Harrison Blair is found living in the home of his grandparents. Levi Blair is listed as the head of the household for house #8, he's a farmer, born in Virginia, and he's 58 years old. Also listed are Rachel (born in North Carolina, age 59), James H. C. (born in Kentucky, age 23), Levi (born in Kentucky, age 20), Harrison B. (born in Kentucky, age 11), and Franklin (born in Kentucky, age 7). They are living close to the families of several of their children.

On page 25 of the 1880 census for District 45 (Barnetts Creek) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 15, 1880), Harrison is still found with his grandparents. Levi Blair is listed as the head of the household for house #147, he's a farmer, born in Virginia, father born in Virginia, mother born in North Carolina, and he's 67 years old. Also listed are Rachel (wife, born in North Carolina, parents born in North Carolina, age 69), Harrison B. Blair (grandson, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 20), and Franklin Blair (grandson, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 17). Harrison and Franklin are the children of daughter Lydia.

NANCY CATHERINE ADAMS, daughter of ANNA DAVIS and JOEL B. ADAMS, was born February 11, 1867 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, died September 1, 1946 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married FRANKLIN PIERCE BLAIR, son of LYDIA M. BLAIR and (unknown), May 5, 1883 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born March 17, 1863 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died August 12, 1935 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: Information on this family can be found in the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. On page 68 of that book, under the Blair Family, it says:

     Of the present generation who have gained distinction, mention should be made of Frank P. Blair, prominent attorney of Paintsville. He has held several public offices, including that of commonwealth’s attorney, and is the present city attorney of Paintsville. See Nos. 247 and 306 of the Wells family for other members of his family.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Franklin Blair (age 20) married Nancy Adams (age 16) on May 5, 1883 in Johnson County.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and photos of their headstones (photo 2) shows that Nancy C. Blair lived from 1867 to 1946, and was buried in Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and that Frank P. Blair lived from 1863 to 1935, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to her death certificate, Nancy Catherine Adams Blair died September 1, 1946 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from old age and complications of a fractured thigh. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as February 11, 1867, her marital status as widowed, her husband as Franklin P. Blair, her parents as Joel Adams (b. Virginia) and Ann Davis (b. Kentucky), the informant as C. F. Walters of Paintsville, and the burial place as Paintsville.

"Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Catherine Blair, 79, prominent of Paintsville, who died Sunday morning, were held Tuesday afternoon at her home on West Street, the Rev. R. E. Webb, pastor of the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member, conducting the services. Interment was in the Mayo cemetery. A daughter of the late Joel and Ann Davis Adams, Mrs. Blair was born in the Barnett’s Creek section of the county and had been a lifelong resident of the county. She was married to F. P. Blair May 5, 1882, and he preceded her in death eleven years ago. A kind and loving mother, a devoted wife, and a loyal neighbor, Mrs. Blair was held in high esteem by all who knew her and her pleasing personality won for her the friendship of many. She will be sadly missed in her home, her church and her community. Mrs. Blair had been in ill health for the past five years, but suffered a stroke June 1 and fell and injured her hip. She was a faithful and loyal member of the First Baptist Church, was a former member of the Liberty Baptist Church at Denver and had been a member of the Paintsville Church since she was 15 years of age. She is survived by five of her eight children, Miss Lydia Blair, at home; Mrs. G. C. Wells and Mrs. C. F. Waters, both of Paintsville; Mrs. B. A. Wells of Louisa, and Jess Blair, of Barnetts Creek; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren."

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Nancy C. Blair died September 1, 1946 in Johnson County at the age of 79. She was living in Johnson County at the time of her death.

According to his death certificate, Frank P. Blair died August 12, 1935 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and the cause of death is listed as "High Blood Pressure with acute Bright's disease and General Weakness due to old age." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as March 17, 1863, his marital status as married, his wife as Nancy C. Blair, his occupation as Attorney at Law, his father as "Not Known," his mother as Lydia Blair (b. Kentucky), the informant as Mrs. Clark Walters, and the burial place as Mayo Cemetery.

His obituary, found on the obituary page of the The Johnson County Historical & Genealogical Society's website:

"Frank P. Blair, widely known attorney and at the time of his death chairman of the Johnson County Republican Committee, died at his home here Monday morning after an illness of several weeks. He had been in poor health for some time suffering from high blood pressure and a complication of ailments and his condition became serious more than two weeks ago. His death is a great shock to his family and countless friends. Mr. Blair was 72 years old and had been prominent in political and public affaires of Johnson County for years. He was a practicing attorney and retired from public life several years ago. During his life-time he served as Circuit Court Clerk of Johnson County, later as Police Judge of Paintsville. He was an active Republican and as chairman of the County Committee took an active part in Republican affairs of the county. He was associated in the practice of his profession with Fred Meade and their firm was known as Meade and Blair. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Missionary Baptist Church and burial was in the Mayo cemetery in the family plot. Surviving him are his widow, one son, Jess Blair of Johnson County, three daughters, Mrs. Clark Walters of Hazard, Mrs. Gus Wells of Paintsville, and Mrs. Bernard Wells of Louisa. Mr. Blair was one of the best known and popular citizens of the county and widely known throughout Eastern Kentucky. The esteem in which he was held by his fellow citizens was evidenced by the large number which attended the funeral and the lovely floral offerings which were sent."

According to Paintsville genealogist and family historian, Joseph Eugene Conley, Matilda Catherine Blair was born about 1870. She married (1) John Fairchild. She married (2) George W. Blair, son of Wallis Blair and Margaret Hitchcock. He was born in December of 1870. She married (3) James H. Blair, son of Amos Blair and Polina Litteral. He was born about 1867. According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, John Fairchild (age 22) married Catherine Blair (age 15) on February 13, 1887 in Johnson County.

There were three John Fairchilds in Johnson County that would have been of about the right age to marry Katherine. The John Fairchild that was son of Asa and Sarah (b. 1865), the John W. Fairchild who was the son of Abner and Lucinda (b. 1873), and the John W. G. Fairchild who was the son of Eli and Malissa May Fairchild (b. 1870). In the 1910 census there was only one John Fairchild that reported that he was on his second marriage, and that was John M. Fairchild, son of Asa and Sarah.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, James Blair (age 22) married Matilda C. Blair (2nd marriage, age 17) on May 16, 1889 in Johnson County.

According to her obituary, Katherine Blair Blair (age 81), daughter of Sam and Maranda Blair, was born May 20, 1870 in Johnson County, died August 13, 1953 at her daughter Mrs. T. C. Trimble's home in Paintsville, and was buried in Blair Cemetery in Barnetts Creek. She was married to James Blair, who preceded her in death. To this union were born 5 children. Vernie Blair (of Riceville) and Albert Blair (Paintsville), and Mrs. Frank Ratliff (Paintsville) survived her. Hollie Blair and Stella Fraley preceded her in death. She later married George Blair, who also preceded her in death. To this union was born 4 children. Mrs. T. C. Trimble (Paintsville), Mrs. Forest Lemaster (Fayetteville, Ohio), and Nola Blair (Paintsville) survived her. Flora May preceded her in death. She was also survived by 1 brother, Alamander Blair (Barnetts Creek); 1 sister, Mrs. Fonzo Salyer (Barnetts Creek); 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Vera Vanhoose died July 18, 1986 in Johnson County at the age of 86.

According to his obituary, Albert "Ab" Van Hoose, son of the late David and Adaline Jackson Van Hoose, was a widely known railroader and a familiar face in Paintsville city politics. He died election day shortly after returning from the polls. He retired earlier in the year after 42 years of service with the C. & O. Railway Company as a fireman, and had suffered a mild heart attack also earlier in the year. He had ran for city office twice, but was defeated both times. According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Daisy A. Lambert (father b. Virginia, age 14) married Jesse Blair (parents b. Johnson County, age 19) on November 24, 1905 in Johnson County.

When Jessee Blair's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer, that he had a wife and 3 children under the age of 12, and that he was born August 31, 1886 in Barnetts Creek. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

He was also survived by 3 sons, John Blair (of Barnetts Creek), Franklin Blair (Barnetts Creek), and Bernard Blair (Barnetts Creek); 3 daughters, Mrs. Alka Caudill (Denver, Kentucky), Mrs. Dixie Blair (Columbus, Ohio), and Mrs. Jessie King (Columbus, Ohio); 4 sisters, Mrs. G. C. Wells (Paintsville), Mrs. C. F. Walters (Paintsville), Miss Lydia Blair (Paintsville), and Mrs. Bernard Wells (Louisa); 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
