He was born December 18, 1899 in Kentucky, died April 11, 1936 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the family cemetery in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (2) DEWEY TACKETT, son of SANFORD P. TACKETT and DORA BAYES, about 1936. He was born August 23, 1909 in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, died January 23, 1953 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Jayne Cemetery in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: Dewey Tackett was the brother of Sherman Tackett and Lorene Tackett.

When Joe Jayne's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Hagerhill [Hager Hill], Johnson County, that his closest relative was Mary Jayne of Paintsville, and that he was born December 18, 1899. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

According to her obituary, Mary Jane Cantrell Tackett (age 78), daughter of Henry and Mint Conley Cantrell, was a resident of Paintsville at the time of her death. She was born August 28, 1900 in Johnson County, died March 10, 1979 in Paintsville Hospital in Paintsville, and was buried in Jayne Cemetery in Staffordsville. She was survived by 2 sons, Jack Jayne (of Paintsville) and Edward Tackett (Grayson); 3 daughters, Deana Montgomery (Paintsville), Jean Hanshaw (Paintsville), and Georgene Hughes (Hazel Park, Michigan); 1 brother, Linnie Montgomery (Paintsville); 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. According to his obituary, Joe Jayne "was fatally shot at Paintsville Saturday, April 4, 1936, by Harry Adams, ex- Sheriff of Johnson County, and died at the Golden Rule Hospital on Saturday, April 11, one week after the shooting. Before his death Jayne professed faith in the Christian religion and was converted. He told members of the family he did not fear death and was ready to go. Mr. Jayne is survived by his father and mother, several brothers and sisters, a wife and a number of children. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Mountain Furniture Company. Crace lived from January 13, 1899 to August 25, 1944, and was buried in Crace Cemetery in Ivyton, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and that Ocie Mae Crace lived from April 23, 1902 to May 12, 1978, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to his death certificate, Paris Crece died August 25, 1944 in St. Joseph's Infirmary in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, from a cerebral hemorrhage. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Ivyton, Kentucky, his birth date as January 13, 1899, his marital status as single, his parents as George Crece (b. Ivyton) and Docia Pace (b. Ivyton), the informant as Mrs. Paris Crece of Paintsville, Kentucky, and the burial place as Paintsville.

      "Paris L. Crace passed away late Friday afternoon at a Louisville Hospital where he was taken soon after suffering a stroke Thursday at West Baden, Indiana. Mr. and Mrs. Crace had left this city a few days previously for an extended vacation. The body was returned to Paintsville by the Jones Funeral Home and was prepared for burial and taken to Mrs. Crace's native home in Ivyton, Magoffin County, Sunday. Services were not conducted until Wednesday awaiting the arrival of a brother from Wenatchee, Wash. Survivng are Mrs. Crace, an only child, Paris, now serving with the Marines in the Pacific, the father, George Crace; three brothers, Dallas at Campbellsville, Ky., Delbert, with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, Don of Wenatchee, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Bruce Howard, Knox, Ind., Elma Howard, Ypsilanti, Mich. and Gaynelle Trimble, Ashland. Mr. Crace was well known in business circles in this area. A native of Magoffin County, he had made his home in Paintsville the past twenty one years, the majority of which were spent as manager of the H. M. Howard Motor Co., and the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He was 45 years old at the time of his death." According to her death certificate, Rebecca Conley Preston died February 18, 1937 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from heart disease and chronic Bright's disease. He was found to be of medium height and build, he had brown eyes and black hair, and he had a "leg weakened."

When Bruce Howard's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Knox County, Indiana, he stated that he was working for Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in Kingsbury, Laporte County, Indiana, that the person who would always know his address was Alka Howard of Knox County, and that he was born March 20, 1896 in McGolfin County [sic], Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 10 inches tall, he weighed 172 pounds, and he had brown eyes, black hair, and a ligh complexion.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Alka Howard lived from 1900 to 1947, and was buried in Westlawn Cemetery in North Liberty, St. Joseph County, Indiana, and that Bruce Howard lived from 1896 to 1965, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to Jasper County, Indiana, death record transcripts, Alkie Grace Howard died October 23, 1947 at the age of 47. Her father's name is listed as George Grace and her mother's name as Dora Pace.

Notes: When Oliver Clay Rice's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Bradley, Magoffin County, that his nearest relative was "Matilda Adams, mother" of Bradley, and that he was born August 30, 1897. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had gray eyes and dark brown eyes.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Oliver Rice was born August 30, 1897, and died in July of 1965. His last place of residence was in Ohio.

She married LEWIS FRANKLIN HUNT, son of AARON HUNT and KEZIAH ANN "KIZZIE" FIELDS, September 19, 1895 in Pike County, Kentucky. He was born October 19, 1863 in Kentucky, died July 27, 1949 in Mouth Card, Pike County, Kentucky, and is buried in Ball Cemetery in Edo, Pike County, Kentucky.

Notes: Matilda Whitt's brother, James, married Lewis Hunt's sister, Mary.

According to her death certificate, Lizzie Hunt died January 5, 1923 in Pike County from either the flu or flux. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Pike County, her age as 51, her marital status as married, her parents as John Whitt (b. Pike County) and Rutha Thornberry (b. Pike County), and the informant as J. F. Hunt of Simers.

According to his death certificate, Lewis Franklin Hunt died July 27, 1949 in Mouth Card at the age of 85 from heart disease and old age. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as October 19, 1863, his marital status as married, his parents as Aaron Hunt and Kizza Ann Fields, and the informant as Berlin Hunt.

She married WILLIAM J. WALTERS, son of SHADRACH WALTERS and ELIZABETH LITTERAL, October 13, 1887 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born November 15, 1865 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died May 23, 1939 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Hall-Meek Cemetery in Concord, Johnson County, Kentucky. William Walters married (2) EMMA D. ALLEN, daughter of B. F. ALLEN and S. F. SCOTT, October 8, 1906 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born March 6, 1883 in Virginia, died April 7, 1943 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Thelma, Johnson County, Kentucky.

William J. Waters was the brother of Winfrey H. Walters.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Julia A. Davis (age 18) married William Walter (age 21) on October 13, 1887 in Johnson County.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, William Walters (2nd marriage, age 40) married Emma Allen (2nd marriage, age 21) on October 8, 1906 in Johnson County.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Julia Davis Walters lived from May 12, 1870 to January 11, 1900 [sic], and was buried in Hall-Meek Cemetery in Concord, Johnson County, Kentucky, and that William "Bill" Walters lived from November 15, 1866 to May 20, 1939, and was buried in the same cemetery. Julia was alive when the census was taken in June of 1900, so the date that is shown for her death is wrong. There are no photos of their headstones but Julia's death date is listed as 1906 in William's obituary.

According to his death certificate, William Walters' died May 23, 1939 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from something to do with an enlarged prostate and an inability to care for himself. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his age as 76 years 6 months 7 days, his marital status as married, his wife as Emma Walters, his occupation as merchant, his parents as Shady Walters (b. Johnson County) and Elizabeth Literral (b. Johnson County), the informant as Leonard Walters of Meally, Kentucky, and the burial place as Concord, Johnson County, Kentucky.

According to his obituary, W. M. Walters (age 73), son of the late Shady and Elizabeth Walters, was affectionately known as "Uncle Billie." He was born in 1865 at Bobbs Branch, near Offutt, died May 20, 1939 from an incurable disease that he had for 5 years, and was buried in Wheeler Cemetery near the old Walters homestead. He was married twice. First he married Julia Davis and to this union were born 3 sons, Leonard, Glen, and Mitchell. Julia died in 1906 and Mitchell died February 23, 1938. His second marriage was to Emma D. Allen of Virginia. No children were born to this union. (Taken from the obituary page of the The Johnson County Historical & Genealogical Society's website.)

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, William Walters died May 23, 1939 in Johnson County at the age of 73. He was living in Paintsville at the time of his death.

According to her death certificate, Emma Allen Walters died April 7, 1943 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from natural causes. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Virginia, her birth date as March 6, 1883, her marital status as widowed, her parents as B. F. Allen (b. Virginia) and S. F. Scott (b. Virginia), the informant as Charlie Hodge of Paintsville, and the burial place as Thelma, Kentucky.

According to her obituary, "Neighbors found the body of Mrs. Emma Walters in the kitchen of her home in Greentown at eight p.m. Wednesday night. Mrs. Walters, age 69, had apparently been preparing dinner and had suffered a heart attack. Death apparently came at once since she held a cake turner in her hand. The mortician stated that she had probably been dead six hours. Mrs. Walters had been seen at about eleven o'clock Wednesday morning. She had made the statement she might go fishing and when she was not seen during the day her neighbors became alarmed and started a search. Since no trace was found of her near the river, they returned to her house where they discovered her body. A widow of the late W. M. Walters, Mrs. Walters has one son, Charlie Hodge, of Postsmith, Ohio, by a former marriage. Funeral arrangements are imcomplete awaiting the arrival of Mr. Hodge." They are living next to William's son, Glen.

JOHN HOBART "HOBART" AKERS, son of LUCINA DAVIS and JOHN C. AKERS, was born August 5, 1896, Van Lear, Johnson County, Kentucky, and died in June of 1976 in Kenova, Wayne County, West Virginia. He married ADA BELLE JARRELL, daughter of WILLIAM BLANCO JARRELL and HANNAH NAPIER. She was born April 24, 1902 in West Virginia, and died June 27, 1990 in Kenova, Wayne County, West Virginia.

Notes: According to West Virginia birth record transcripts, William Blanco Jarrell was born in 1878 in Wayne County.

According to California death record transcripts, Russell Garrett Jarrell was born September 21, 1914 in West Virginia, and died December 30, 1984 in San Diego County. His mother's maiden name is listed as Napier.

Hobart states that he has brown eyes on his World War I draft registration card and that he has blue eyes on his World War II draft registration card.

When John H. Akers' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1918, he stated that he was a brakeman for the railroad in Portsmouth, Ohio, that he lived in Whites Creek, West Virginia, that his closest relative was John C. Akers of Whites Creek, and that he was born August 5, 1896 in Van Lear, Kentucky. He was found to be short and stout, and he had brown hair and brown eyes.

When Hobart Akers' World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942, stated that he was working for the Cincinnati Gas Company in Kenovahe, Wayne County, West Virginia, that his closest relative was Ada Belle Akers, and that he was born August 5, 1896 in Van Lear, Kentucky. He was found to be 6 feet tall, he weighed 170 pounds, and he had blue eyes, gray hair, and a ruddy complexion.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, John Akers was born August 5, 1896, and died in June of 1976. His last place of residence was in Kenova, Wayne County, West Virginia.
