LEANDER J. BLAIR, son of JAMES HENRY C. BLAIR and NANCY J. CONLEY, was born February 11, 1876 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died December 17, 1923 in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married PAULINE LEWIS, daughter of JOSEPH L. LEWIS, about 1897. She was born in February of 1881 in Harlan County, Kentucky, and died about 1946 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky.

Notes: According to Johnson County, Kentucky, birth records, both Leander Blair and his brother Alamander were born on February 11, 1876 to Jas. H.C. Blair (b. Johnson County) and Nancy J. Conly (b. Johnson County).

When Leander Blair's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Riceville, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Bertie Blair of Riceville, and that he was born February 11, 1876. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown hair and brown eyes.

According to his death certificate, Leander Blair died December 17, 1923 in Riceville from a fractured skull. That injury reportedly came during a mining accident. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his marital status as divorced, his occupation as miner, his parents as Henry Blair (b. Johnson County) and Nancy Spradlin (b. Johnson County), and the informant as Elmer Blair of Riceville, Kentucky.

On page 39 of the 1900 census for District 40 (Magisterial District No. 3) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 19, 1900), Leander Blair is listed as the head of the household for house #337, no occupation is listed, born in February of 1876 in Kentucky, married for 2 years, and he's 24 years old. He married (3) CYNTHIA ETTA SPRADLIN, daughter of WILLIAM SPRADLIN and REBECCA HARMON, November 18, 1897 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in April of 1880.

Notes: For some reason, both Henry and his brother, Britton claim to be the head of the same family in the 1880 census. Henry and Nancy are listed as the parents of Alamander and Leander on their birth records, however. Both families will be shown here for future reference.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that John Mahan Smith, Eda Smith, Terressa Smith Bolin, and Henry Bolin were all buried in Elijah Smith Cemetery in Dingus, Morgan County, Kentucky. No headstone photos are provided.

According to his death certificate, John M. Smith died January 19, 1923 in Dingus, Morgan County, Kentucky, from influenza. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his age as 68, his marital status as married, his father as John Smith (b. Kentucky), the informant as H. H. Holbrook of Dingus, and the burial place as Smith Cemetery.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, John M. Smith died January 20, 1923 in Morgan County at the age of 68. He was living in Morgan County at the time of his death.

According to her death certificate, Tezy Smith Bolin died March 15, 1960 in Elamton, Morgan County, Kentucky, from cancer of the liver. MAHALA CATHERINE "CATHERINE" CONLEY, daughter of JAMES A. CONLEY and LINNIE SUSAN B. MUSICK, was born November 4, 1874 in Kentucky, died October 21, 1906 in Kentucky, and is buried in Hackworth Cemetery in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky. She married KENIS FRANKLIN HACKWORTH, son of GEORGE JEREMIAH "JERRY" HACKWORTH and AGNESS E. POE, August 28, 1893 in Floyd County, Kentucky. He was born March 13, 1873 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died March 14, 1905 in Kentucky, and is buried in Hackworth Cemetery in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky.

Notes: Kenis Franklin Hackworth was the brother of Henry W. Hackworth, Elizabeth Hackworth, Caroline "Carrie" Hackworth, and Violet Hackworth.

Kenis Franklin Hackworth's mother's maiden name is listed as Agnes Poe his sister Violet's (1859-1932) birth record, and as Agnes Hanshew Violet's death certificate. It's found to be Agnes Poe on his brother Jackson's (1876) birth record, and his sister Elizabeth's death certificate (1866-1948). It's listed as Agnes Marshall on his sister Polly's (1863-1914) death certificate. According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 353), it was Agnes Marshall.

According to descendant Tony Spencer, "Agnes MARSHALL married Edward "Ned" POE. Ned was a brother to Agness POE who married George Jeremiah "Jerry" HACKWORTH." Tony provided a marriage record for George Hackworth and Agnes Poe, who were married on September 9, 1857 in Floyd County, Kentucky. Tony also provided a death certificate for Jerry Hackworth, who died March 13, 1917 in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky, from "Myalziea." Also on that certificate, his parents are listed as George Hackworth (b. Old Virginia) and Peggy Hanshaw (b. Floyd County), and the informant as Alexander Hackworth of Bonanza, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Kenis F. Hackworth (age 20) married Mahala Catherine Conley on August 28, 1893.

Information found on findagrave.com photos of their headstones shows that M. C. Hackworth lived from November 4, 1874 to October 21, 1906, and was buried in Hackworth Family Cemetery in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky, and that K. F. Hackworth lived from March 13, 1873 [the 3 is hard to read], and was buried in the same cemetery.

This is a cemetery that was used extensively for re-interment of burials from other cemeteries due to the construction of Paintsville Lake and road construction throughout Johnson County.

According to her death certificate, Polly Smith Pennington died November 16, 1951 at home in rural Ophir, Johnson County, Kentucky. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Morgan County, her birth date as June 19, 1883, her marital status as married, her father as Mahan Smith, the informant as Christy Gullett, and the burial place Pennington Cemetery in Ophir [Ophir is actually in Morgan County, close to the Johnson County line].

Notes: When Henry Blevins' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Williamson, Mingo County, West Virginia, he stated that he was a coal miner working for Cub Mountain Coal & Coke Company in Nolan, Mingo County, that his closest relative was Lousa Blevins [sic] of Nolan, and that he was born September 10, 1884. He was found to be short, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."
