He was born May 15, 1911 in Otway, Scioto County, Ohio, died August 15, 1993 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, and is buried in Oswego Cemetery in Otway, Scioto County, Ohio.

Notes: From Charles Penn: "Lula was astounded when she received her birth certificate from Frankfort, Kentucky - as she was applying for Social Security - that her name was officially Lula Mable Conley at birth. She had always known her name to have been Lula Avenal Conley. There was talk, at the time, of getting her older half-sister - Nora Martin Whitaker - to attest that she had always gone by the name Lula Avenal. Whether that was done or not could perhaps be verified by Kentucky Vital Statistics."

Also from Charles: "William's death certificate shows his education level to have been 8th grade. Dad was quite proud of having returned to Otway High School after having dropped out; and he did earn his high school diploma.
