FARISH MONTGOMERY, son of FRANCIS J. "FRANKIE" CANTRELL and MILES MONTGOMERY, was born about 1875 in Kentucky, and died before 1910. He married SARAH SKAGGS, daughter of ARTHUR SKAGGS and LUCINDA RIGGSBY, August 8, 1888 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. She was born about 1875 in Kentucky, and died before 1910.

Notes: Sarah Skaggs was the sister of Cora Roberta Skaggs, Dockie S. Skaggs, Dicie Skaggs, and reportedly the sister of Callie Skaggs.

Farish and Sarah Skaggs Montgomery must have died prior to 1910, as their children are found living with various families.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Arther Scaggs married Lucinda Riggsby on July 2, 1866 in Johnson County.

According to his death certificate, Arthur Skaggs died February 25, 1929 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, and the cause of death is listed as "Kidneys." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as September 15, 1849, his marital status is blank, his parents as Peter Skaggs (b. Kentucky) and Clerindia Prints (b. She married MALCOLM JENNINGS "MACK" SMITH, son of WILLIAM WALKER SMITH and MAHALA A. HILL, about 1929. He was born April 12, 1902 in Kentucky, and died February 17, 1978 in Morgan County, Kentucky. Malcolm Smith married (1) LIZZIE SKAGGS.

Notes: A son of Malcolm Jennings Smith and Lizzie Skaggs was Kenneth Jennings Smith, who married Rosa Bell Smith, daughter of Thomas Henry Smith and Oma Parks.

According to his obituary, Kenneth Jennings "Papaw" Smith Sr. (age 82), son of the late Malcolm Jennings and Lizzie Skaggs Smith, was born August 25, 1924 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died December 6, 2005 in University of Kentucky Medical Center, and was buried in Elijah Smith Cemetery in Morgan County. In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son, William Eugene Smith; 1 daughter, Betty Louise Smith; 1 brother, Wendell Smith; his step-mother, Elle Lemaster Smith; and 1 grandson, Joe Frank Banks. He was survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosa B. Smith; 2 sons, Kenneth J. Smith Jr. (of Auburn, Alabama) and Roger (Donna) Smith (Cynthiana); 5 daughters, Anna Ruth Roberts (Prescott, Arizona), Cathy Lee Coffey (Cynthiana), Oma E. (James) Ballard (Paris), Barbara A. She married BILL GREEN BLANTON, son of NANCY ELLEN "ELLEN" MONTGOMERY and MACK DONAL BLANTON. He was born December 14, 1909 in Kentucky, died May 9, 1971 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in Head of Coon Creek Cemetery in Coon Creek, Magoffin County, Kentucky. Bill Green Blanton married (1) ROSY B. (unknown last name) about 1927. She was born about 1912 in Kentucky.

Notes: Bill Blanton of Magoffin County is listed as a surviving half-brother in Lester Blair's obituary.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Ada Blanton lived from April 19, 1915 to April 15, 1989, and was buried in Howard Family Cemetery in Bloomington, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and that Bill Blanton lived from December 14, 1908 [he's 4 months old in the 1910 census] to May 9, 1971, and was buried in the same cemetery. Son Carson, daughter Alpha, and Ada's parents were buried in the same cemetery. Howard Family Cemetery is also known as Head of Coon Creek Cemetery.

He married HATTIE ELIZABETH MERRITT, daughter of EDWARD MERRITT and BIDDIE DOTSON, about 1899. She was born in May of 1882 in Kentucky, died July 30, 1966 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Conley Cemetery in Abbott Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky.

Notes: Hattie Elizabeth Merritt was the sister of Cleo Merritt, who had a child with Emmanuel "Manuel" Fitzpatrick. She was also the sister of Sarah Ellen Merritt, Lewis Merritt, William "Bill" Merritt, and of Mary Alice Merritt, who married Edgar Hannah, son of Isaac Harmon Hannah and Lydia Margaret Arms.

When William Wesley Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a carpenter working for Elkhorn Piney Coal Company in Weeksburg, Floyd County, that his closest relative was Hattie Elizabeth Conley of Bonanza, Floyd County, and that he was born March 31, 1877. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had blue eyes and brown hair.

Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Dingus, Kentucky, his birth date as April 2, 1918, his marital status as married, his place of residence was Crockett, his occupation as labor repairman, his parents as Ballard Howard and Louisa Montgomery, the informant as Mrs. Mollie Ferguson Howard, and the burial place as the family cemetery in Dingus.

He was born May 5, 1921 in Morgan County, died October 30, 2005 in Eastern Kentucky Veteran Center in Hazard, and was buried in Howard Cemetery in Crockett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Monnie Conley Howard; and several brothers and sisters. He was survived by 2 sons, Eugene (Bonnie) Howard (of Hazard) and Edmond (Barbara) Howard; 2 daughters, Sharon Sue (Norvin) Thompson (Crockett) and Vonderene Swigart (Winchester, Virginia); 2 brothers, Bill (Polly) Howard (White Oak Branch) and Clint (Ella) Howard (White Oak Branch); 3 grandsons; 6 granddaughters; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was born June 5, 1927 in West Liberty, died on a Monday at home following a brief illness, and was buried in Montgomery Cemetery in West Liberty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Jewel Howard; 4 brothers, Shafter Howard, Luster Howard, Sylvester Howard, and Hardin Howard; 4 sisters, Beulah Chapman, Victoria Ball, Gertie Bolin, and Lottie Howard; and 1 grandson, Jerry Ray Howard Jr. He was survived by his wife, Polly Kathleen Montgomery, whom he married September 2, 1950; 3 sons, William Jay Howard (of West Liberty), John B. Howard (West Liberty), and Jerry R.
