Notes: Information on George Rice can be found on page 368 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society.

Information on this family can also be found on page 470 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. In that book it says that George P. Rice was born July 29, 1865 and married Mary May, daughter of James L. May of Ivyton. Their children were Cora Rice and Luther Rice. It also says that both of the children were married and living in the state of Washington.

The fact that Mary May was the daughter of James Lewis May and Louisa A. Patrick comes from circumstancial evidence. The Johnson County history book says that her father was James L. May from Ivyton in Magoffin County, and there is only one James L. May in Magoffin County in 1870 and 1880. That book also says that the witnesses of her wedding were Eliza Patrick and Smith Patrick, and James' wife's maiden name was Patrick. It also appears that she died before 1890, because that's when George Rice married Mary McLemore. Mary May was the sister of Samuel David May and James Frank May, who married Amanda J. Pace, daughter of John C. Pace and Nancy Jane Bailey.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, George P. Rice married Mary May on July 28, 1887 in Magoffin County at the home of James L. May. The witnesses were Eliza Patrick and Smith Patrick, and the minister was T. J. Riggs.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, George P. Rice married Mary McLemore on July 19, 1890 in Magoffin County at the home of J. H. Rice. The witnesses were W. W. Rice and J. H. Rice, and the minister was W. V. Dickerson.
