HENRY JACKSON CONLEY, son of WILLIAM JEFFERSON CONLEY and TERINA LORENA REBECCA BROWN "LORENA" AUXIER, was born July 27, 1854 in Little Paint, Johnson County, Kentucky, died February 16, 1921 in Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. He married (1) ELIZABETH ALICE "LYDIA" SPRADLIN, daughter of EVAN SPRADLIN and EMELINE MAY. She was born August 18, 1859 in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky, died September 1, 1908 in Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. He married (2) EVA M. (unknown last name) about 1910. She was born about 1864 in Iowa.

Information on this family can also be found on page 525 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. In that book it says:

     "Another set of Spradlins were those of the East Point section, who trace to a Bennie Spradlin who was the father of Iven. Iven Spradlin married a May and they were the parents of Charlotte, who married Joseph D. Auxier (see No. 49 of the Auxier family); James H., who married first to Laura Brown, daughter of George Brown, and after her death, second to Lorenda Davis see No. 101 of the Davis family); Martha Jane, who married Tom Auxier; Lyda, who married Henry Connelley; Mart, who married Vada Clark; and Emm, who married Wash Leek. By the second marriage of Iven Spradlin to Elizabeth Hillman the following children were born: Tom, who married Laura Litz; Angie, who married first James Auxier, and second Henry Burke; Sherd, who married Sallie Music; Sola, who married John Wes Music; Len, of East Point; and Tom, of Oklahoma." And "Henry Connelley was a son of Jefferson Connelley (see No. 32 of the Connelley family). He and his wife went to Oklahoma and both died there."

Elizabeth Hillman's 2nd husband was Francis Marion Moles.

Lydia Spradlin's sister, Emeline Spradlin, was the 2nd wife of George Washington "Wash" Leek.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Evan Spradlin married Emeline May on January 15, 1848 in Johnson County.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Evan Spradlin married Elizabeth Hillman on June 3, 1865 in Johnson County.

Henry and Lydia Spradlin Conley moved from East Point, Kentucky, to 3 miles northeast of Elk City, Oklahoma, in September of 1899. They are both buried on their farm there.

She married CHARLES WESLEY PHELPS, son of JOHN J. PHELPS and (unknown), about 1901. He was born July 9, 1878 in Missouri, died in 1963, and is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma.

Phelps lived from 1879 to 1963, and is buried in Block 2 Lot 11 Space 3, Laura Mae Phelps lived from 1881 to 1958, and is buried in Block 2 Lot 11 Space 4, Paul Phelps lived from 1902 to 1973, and is buried in Block A Lot 35 Space 1, Paul's wife Elizabeth lived from 1906 to 1996, and is buried in Block A Lot 35 Space 2, Charles Phelps Jr. lived from 1918 to 2005, and is buried in Block 2 Lot 11 Space 5, and John H. Phelps lived from 1921 to 1944, and is buried in Block 2 Lot 11 Space 2.

When Charles Wesley Phelps' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Sayre, Oklahoma, he stated that he was a farmer in Elk City, Beckham County, that his closest relative was May Phelps of Elk City, and that he was born July 9, 1878. He was born April 17, 1882 in Kansas, died in 1941, and is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma.

Information found on Fairlawn Cemetery's website shows that Albert J. Billau lived from 1882 to 1941, and is buried in Block 3 Lot 0 Space J-3. There is another Billau buried there, and that person is buried next to Albert, but the first name is listed as "????" and no birth or death date are listed.

When Albert J. Billau's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, he stated that he was a farmer, that his closest relative was Floy Anna Billau, and that he was born April 17, 1882. He had blue eyes.

FRANCES HELEN "HELEN" CONLEY, daughter of WILLIAM JEFFERSON CONLEY and TERINA LORENA REBECCA BROWN "LORENA" AUXIER, was born May 5, 1856 in Little Paint, Floyd County, Kentucky, died September 19, 1938 in Rossmore, Logan County, West Virginia, and is buried in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married GEORGE CRAIG MIDDAUGH, son of JACKSON C. MIDDAUGH and MARY ANN VANHOOSE, in February of 1886 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born in August of 1865 in Ohio, and died before 1938.

George Craig Middaugh was the brother of John Levi Middaugh.

Jackson Middaugh's name has been reported to have been Jesse C. Middaugh, but on John Levi Middaugh's death certificate it's Jackson.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, G. C. Middaugh and Helen Conley got their marriage certificate on February 18, 1886 in Johnson County.

According to Kentucky birth records, Frances Helen Conley was born May 5, 1856 in Little Paint, Floyd County, Kentucky, to William J. Conley and Lorena Auxier.

According to her obituary, Helen Middaugh (age 82), died September 18, 1938 at the Rossmore, West Virginia, home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Laura Fraley, and was buried in East Point. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. C. "Craig" Middaugh, several years prior. In addition to her daughter, she was survived by 1 son, Fred Middaugh (of Dayton, Ohio). According to West Virginia death record transcripts, Mrs. Helen Middaugh died September 19, 1938 in Logan County. Her parents are listed as Henry Conley and Laura Auxier, her husband as George Middaugh, and she was married at the time of her death.

Middaugh is listed as the head of the household for house #363, she's keeping house, born in Kentucky, and she's 40 years old. Also listed are Lizzie [Elizabeth A. Farley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Pike County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a miner working for the Borderland Coal Company in West Virginia, that he was married and had 2 children, and that he was born January 17, 1891 in Birch, West Virginia. He was found to be tall and stout, and he had blue eyes and black hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

When Benjamin Harison [sic] Farley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Williamson, Mingo County, West Virginia, he stated that he was working for West Virginia Coal & Coke Corporation on Omar, Logan County, West Virginia, that the person who would always know his address was Anna Laura Farley of Earling, West Virginia, and that he was born January 17, 1891 in Burch, West Virginia. He was found to be 5 feet 10 inches tall, he weighed 155 pounds, and he had blue eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion.

A photo of their headstone shows that Benjamin H. Farley lived from January 17, 1891 to August 3, 1974, and Annie Laura Farley from June 26, 1892 to April 10, 1958.

According to West Virginia death record transcripts, Anna Laura Middaugh Farley was born about 1893, and died April 10, 1958 in Huntington, Cabell County, at the age of 65 years 9 months 14 days. Her parents are listed as G. Craig Middaugh and Helen Conley.

She married FRANCIS MARION MOLES, son of EMANUEL MOLES and ELIZABETH TROUT, January 16, 1886 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born November 7, 1842 in Kentucky, died March 18, 1916 in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Moles Cemetery in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky. Francis Marion Moles married (1) ELIZABETH ROBINSON. He married (3) ELIZABETH HILLMAN.

In that book it says tath Martelia Laurie Conley was born February 2, 1858 in East Point, Kentucky, died November 12, 1895, and married Francis Marion Moles. According to her death certificate, Elizabeth Hillman Moles died March 11, 1916 in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky, from tuberculosis of the lungs and pneumonia. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Russell County, Virginia, her birth date as August 18, 1844, her marital status is blank, her parents as Thomas Hillman (b. Virginia) and Martha Smith (b. Virginia), the informant as Angie Burk of East Point, and the burial place is unreadable.

According to his death certificate, Frank M. Moles died August 17, 1928 in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky, from rheumatism complicated by sciatica. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as January 10, 1878, his marital status as married, his occupation as marchand and postmaster, his parents as Francis M. Moles (b. Kentucky) and Elizabeth Robinson (b. Kentucky), the informant as Mrs. Frank M. Moles of East Point, and the burial place as East Point.

Francis Marion Moles enlisted on December 10, 1861 as a private in the Union Army, Company K, Kentucky 14th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on January 31, 1865 in Louisa, Kentucky.

When Jefferson Moles' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Floyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a operator and and agent for C & O Railroad in Auxier, Kentucky, that he was married and had a child, and that he was born December 16, 1886 in East Point, Kentucky. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

When Sam Music's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Pike County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a section foreman working for C & O Railroad in Marrowbone Branch, that he was married and had 1 child, and that he was born June 24, 1886 in East Point, Kentucky. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had light brown eyes, black hair, and he was partly balding.

According to her obituary, Laura Music (age 72), daughter of the late F. M. and Martellie Conley Moles, served as a postmaster for a number of years, as did her father, and had lived in East Point for most of her life. She was born April 28, 1891 [April 25] in Floyd County, died November 28, 1963 at the Davis Branch home of her daughter, Mrs. Warden Auxier, and was buried in the family cemetery in East Point. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Music, on November 17, 1955. In addition to her daughter, she was survived by 2 brothers, Jeff Moles (of Paintsville) and Lon Moles (Prestonsburg). According to his obituary, Sam M. Music (age 69), son of the late H. J. "Jack" Music and Isabelle Greer Music, was a retired C & O Railroad section foreman and merchant, and spent most of his life in East Point, Floyd County, Kentucky. He was born June 24, 1886 in East Point. "He became suddenly ill at Milton, Kentucky, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Herefore where he had gone with relatives on Wednesday to attend the funeral of Down Auxier. He died the following day in the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Music was married when a young man to Miss Laura Moles of East Point who survives. Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Warden Auxier of this city [Paintsville]; 3 brothers, Taylor Music of East Point, George and Will Music, both of Auxier; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Watkins, Gallipolis, Ohio; Catherine Albright, Toledo, Ohio; and Mrs. Miranda Auxier of East Point, and a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Reverent S. C. Honeycutt and Rev. Bobby Joe Kitchen. Burial was made in the family cemetery at East Point." Burke Hall, Auxier; Stella E. Wells, address unknown; Roy E. Burke, Olympia, Ky.; Bertha L. Burke, Williamsport, W. Va.; Frank Spears [?], deceased; I. S. Burke and Helen Price, Williamson. A farmer by occupation, Mr. Burke was a member of the Church of God. The funeral was held at the East Point Christian Church, Rev. S. C. Honeycutt officiating. In addition to his widow and children, survivors include thirty-six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four brothers Tom L., East Point; Grant, Van Lear; Henry, Prestonsburg; and R. N. His 1st wife, Melvira Louella Burchett, lived from June 22, 1884 to July 5, 1919, and is buried in Auxier Relocation Cemetery in Auxier. His 2nd wife was Ola Leana Burke Wells, daughter of William Albert Burke and Laura Alice Conley Burke. She was born November 8, 1887 in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky, died October 18, 1970 in Fayette County, Kentucky, and was buried in Ford Cemetery in Auxier. According to her death certificate, Martha Magdeline Brown Wells died October 27, 1953 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, from arteriosclerosis and senility. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, Kentucky, her birth date as March 30, 1865, her marital status as widowed, her parents as Jefferson Brown and Jane George, the informant as "Mrs. W. L. Frizzell (daughter)," and the burial place as Dixon Cemetery in Ashland.

According to his obituary, Lacy Burchett, son of the late William and Vicy Griffith Burchett, was a retired coal miner and a resident of Van Lear, Kentucky, at the time of his death. He died October 2, 1971 at home following an extended illness, and was buried in Burchett Cemetery in Van Lear. He was survived by his wife, Laura Reed Burchett; 2 sons, Floyd Burchett (of Van Lear) and William Burchett (Van Lear); 4 daughters, Letha Wells (Van Lear), Sara Wells (Van Lear), Audra Palinkas (Chesterfield, Ohio), Ella Wells (Cleveland, Ohio), and Ola Mae Bowling (Cleveland); 2 brothers, Jack Burchett (McDowell) and Dave Burchett (Indiana); and 4 sisters, Rose Magin (Hampton, Virginia), Eliza Dillion (Springfield, Ohio), Marilyn Wells (Columbus, Ohio), and Myrtie Burk (Fallsburg). According to his obituary, "Frank Burke, 50, of Auxier, veteran of World War I, died Sunday, July 7, at the Veterans Hospital in Huntington, W. Va., after an illness of four months. He served with a hospital detachment in France, while in service, and was wounded in action. He had been a patient at the hospital for one month and spent seven weeks in the Paintsville Hospital prior to going to Huntington. Funeral services were conducted July 10 at the Christian Church at East Point, the Rev. Spurgeon Honeycutt and Rev. Dewey Fraley officiating. Interment was in the East Point Cemetery under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home. He was born in this county and was a son of the late Albert and Laura Alice Conley Burke. He was a member of the East Point Christian Church and the Floyd Christian Church and the Floyd County Fish and Game Club. Prior to his illness he was employed at the Veterans' Hospital at Chillicothe, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Merta Burchett Burke, and the following children, Thelma, Ora James, and Darvin, all at home; Viola Collins, of Auxier." He married LUCY RICE, daughter of HENRY BASCOM "BASCOM" RICE and FRANKIE FLETCHER, about 1918. She was born February 6, 1891 in Kentucky, died May 16, 1972 in Hager Hill, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Hager Hill Cemetery in Hager Hill, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Lucy Rice was the sister of Lora Rice, and of Ruie Rice, who married Jesse Caudill, son of Stephen J. Caudill and Jincy J. Fairchild.

Henry Bascom Rice was the brother of Alexander Rice, Sarah Rice, and Robert Rice.

According to his obituary found on the obituary page of the Johnson County Historical & Genealogical Society's website:

"Henry Bascom Rice was born November 8, 1865, the son of Martin V. and Nancy Rice [Nancy Whitaker Rice]. He was the second child of a family of eight, four brothers and three sisters. He was 70 years, 10 months and 20 days old. He departed this life September 28, 1936. The surviving members of the family are Alex Rice, of Royalton, Ky.; Jack Rice, Ivyton, Ky.; Robert Rice, Hager Hill, Ky., brothers [sic]; Sarah Kelly, Wenatchee, Washington, and Molly Patrick, Bradley, Ky., sisters. [sic] Henry Bascom Rice and Frankie Fletcher were united in marriage March 22, 1888. To this union were born five children, Rouie Caudill, Oil Springs, Ky.; Lucy Conley, Hager Hill, Ky.; Lora Pelphrey, Staffordsville, Ky., Luther Rice, Staffordsville, and Jessie Rice, deceased. There were eight grand children, six of whom are living. Mr. Rice was born and reared in Magoffin County. He moved to Johnson County in 1908. He was a carpenter by trade and worked and made friends in numerous sections of Eastern Kentucky. He had made friends wherever he went with his kind and friendly disposition. He was well and favorably known in almost every vicinity in this part of the State. One consolation for the grief-stricken children, relatives and friends is that Mr. Rice has gone to a better place where he can join his wife and rest in peace forever more.
